Wood Place Settings

I came across this really fun idea for wooden place settings (also called chargers) for a dinning table and thought these would be the perfect gift for a friend's birthday. Her house is amazing! Everywhere you look is beautiful! So I thought she might like them.

Here's the original idea from the Shanty 2 Chic sisters (who are so talented!!) I made a few changes to mine...

I started with 1x12 Poplar wood, which you buy by-the-foot at Home Depot, and had them cut it down for me into 15 inch rectangles. This was a little more expensive than the wood that the Shanty girls used, but I wanted a solid piece of wood instead of screwing two smaller boards together.

Then, I used my electric sander with 120 grit sandpaper to round off the edges of each piece before staining them with Minwax wood stain in Classic Gray 271. (In my excitement, I forgot to take any pictures of them up until this point)

Using a stencil and sharpie marker, I outlined the letter "C" in the bottom right corner of each board.

Then, I filled in the C's with a black paint and paintbrush. Each one got a little better! By the last one, I finally got the hang of it.

After the paint had dried, I added one coat of Waterlox Orginal Sealer/Finish.

I hope she likes them! I'm really pleased with the results, I think I may have to make a set for my table!
