Reimagined: Chair Makeovers With Slip Covers

As I'm gearing up for the Junk In The Trunk Vintage Market on May 2nd and 3rd, I had a few chairs that needed some attention. I had this little shabby chic chair that was super cute by it's cushion was flattened out to almost nothing and was being held on with Duct Tape...

In my closet of fabric, I had this dress shirt that my husband no longer wears and it was just enough fabric to recover the cushion for this chair (for free!). So I steamed it to get out all the wrinkles.

I cut a new piece of foam to size, and covered it with batting. Then, I wrapped the new fabric around the cushion and held it in place with staples. To see a step-by-step of this process you can read more about it here where I covered a Mid-Century Modern chair.

Here's the finished chair! I decided not to paint over the cute hand-painted flowers (they add so much charm) so I just went over the whole chair with a damp wash cloth to clean it up.

The next set of chairs are for the dinning room.

Here's how they looked before. I'd say straight out of the 90's. I decided to make a slip cover for them.

I started by turning the fabric inside out and pinning it in place.

Here's a pic of the back completed.

I did sections then pinned them together.

Then I sewed all my seams.

Finally, I put the slipcover on the chair and hemmed the bottom. This is easier if you put the chair up on a desk so it's closer to eye level.

Here are the finished pair. I think they look so much better! I hope someone will enjoy them in their dinning room.
