Nursery Mural

We have three months until our little boy is supposed to be born, and I started feeling the desire to get the nursery ready. The room used to be our guest room and was already one of my favorite shades of blue (Seattle Haze by Valspar) matched with grey (Grayish by Sherwin-Williams), so we decided to leave it.

My mother, Stacy, is a wonderful painter! She has created too many murals and paintings to keep count over the years (take a look at her blog and you'll see some); so I knew she'd be up for painting one for her grandson's room.

I really liked the idea of having a wall of Birch Trees, so we gathered some inspiration from pictures online, Pinterest, etc. Then, we measured out with a level where we wanted the trees to be. How far apart and if they were going to be slanted. Next, using a 3" foam roller, she started making a rough outline of each tree.

Then, she went back with an angled paint brush and starting making the trees a little thicker and adding some branches.

Being pregnant, I got to sit back and watch and give my opinion as to where I thought branches should be!

After the branches were added, and the trees were dry, she went back with the same blue color as the walls and made the notches in the trees.

We had a little helper along the way (with a dry paintbrush, shhh don't tell her she didn't actually have any paint).

She added some light green leaves, and a few more notches....

And this could possibly be my favorite part, a little heart carved into one of the trees with mine and my husband's initials.

Here's the finished mural, I love it! It's all starting to come together. I have a few more projects/plans to finished before baby comes. You can see my industrial pendant light fixture makeover here.
